CHogha Zanbil

GHogha Zanbil ( Elamite : Ziggurat Dur Untash ) it means an ancient temple which is a part of Dur Untash city is located in KHozestan province .

City was made in 1250 B.C . during the time of ELamite dynasy , 45 km away from Susa . modern name for Dur Untash city is CHogha Zanbil (persian : basket mound ), and it was made by Elamite king ontash Gal or ontash napirisha for elamite god ( in shushinak ) .

Temple was constructed in the center of Dur Untash ( capital of ancient elam ) . it has been the tallest building in city with 5 levels and 53 m high. But now it is around 25 m . this may be atributed to the possibility that the ancient city was never quiet finished as untash napirisha the king , did not live long enough to see his work completed . the thousands of unused bricks left at the site may be taken as evidance that constraction seased folowing the king`s death . there was a group of temples on the north western side of of the ziggurate that was dedicated to minor deities . three enclosures surrounded the temple , the main god and mini deities (Ziggurate ) and second enclosure surrounded a vast empty zone , and the other most enclosure was meant to protect the city from invadors . three places and a temple were discovered in areas between the second and the third enclosures . french archeologist Roman Girishman between 1951 and 1961 was working in CHogha zanbil and his studies on CHogha Aanbil have been printed in 4 volumes .
