SHushtar

SHushtar historical hydraulic system is a complex irrigation system of the SHushtar city from the sasanid era.

This city is located in KHuzestan province ,situated in the south west of iran .the altitude is around 65m ,population is around 145 thousand people ,and the average of precipitation is about 350 mil. in a years SHushtar infrastracture ,included water mills ,dams, tunnels, and canals.there is a huge dam by the name of Gargar weir which was built on the water mills and waterfalls. there were more than forty seprate mills under this hydraulic system , that they were working by using , their own seprate water canals .Karun river is the only navigable river of Iran , is divided into two branches befor intering SHushtar , called Gargar and shotait . Gargar is an artificial water course which dates back to sasanid dynasty 3th century up to 651 A.D. three tunnels lead to water provided by Gargar weir into the complex .the entering water is divided up through numerous canalls , turns the mill wheels , and then falls into the a basin in form of water cascades . they create an amazing and fascinating view in your eyes . SHushtar historical hydraulic system is one the masterpieces of civil engineering in the world.
