pasargad

Passargade the spacious capital of syrus “ the great “ ( 559-530 ) BC . lovated in the nourthern fars the fertile and well watered ( dashte – e – morghab ) .

Located 40 km to the northest of perspolis , and while the modern road takes 80 k.m to cover distance between the 2 cites .

It is best toimagine passargade as a group of garden & pavilions in a park .

Essentially a camp of nomads but made out of natural stones .

Statiscally , the audience hall , the residential palace , the garden pavilions , and the gate belong to the architectural tradition of Iranian nomads , who lived in large tents .

However , syrus used elements from other cultures as well : scluptures from the Assyrian palaces were used as model , works may have been done by stonemasons from Greek , lonia , hybrid demon Gurded the Gate .

The small tomb of syrus is situated a little to the southwest . it was venerated by later rules , Macedonian king alexander who ordered restorations in 324 BC .

Pasargade also includes audience , and private palace that only some magnificent ruins are remaning .

The site remained accupied after the end of achamenid empire .

There is some evidence for great fire on the citadel but the presence of coin hoards in the stratum of destruction suggest that the fire was caused by enemies .

There is no evidence for war in persis at that moment .
